June 2024
Come to Beautification Awards and see what wonderful creativity and beauty can be found in Central Coast’s landscapes. We love holding our Beautification Awards gala event at the Dream Inn, right on the beach by the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and the Boardwalk this year. Live rockin’ reggae band, tropical vibe. Come spend a night on the beach with us. Aloha!
Central Coast Chapter Members and Friends,
All of a sudden we’ve made it to June and you all know what that means. Yup, it’s our upcoming Chapter’s Beautification Awards presentation held this year at The Dream Inn, beach-side, in Santa Cruz, California.
All the judging is complete after two days of canvasing the county from hillside to shoreline in order to select the lucky (and deserving) winners of our yearly contest. The judging team of Mike Ruscoe, mostly retired, Francisco Hernandez Jr. from SiteOne, Juan Carlos Esparza from Urban Landscapes and Scott Hayes from Frank and Grossman all stepped up and did a wonderful job in making the two days of judging successful. Not that there wasn’t the usual drama associated with a production of this magnitude. Details on that story and more to be told at the Banquet Night. In addition to the work of these fine gentlemen, we need to acknowledge the work behind the scenes done by Scott Long of Central Coast Landscape and Katia Valezquez of Netafim who were on the clock prior to judging and afterwards to meet each morning with the judging team and help with any logistical issues that came up during those two days.
A most important “thank you!” to all the landscape contractor companies that participated in this year’s contest. There’s no program without you coming to play. You definitely all RULE. Lastly to address all those wonderful and constant email reminders sent to you contractors over the last many weeks pleading for you to enter your projects, Elise Huffman is the one to thank. She’s our amazing newsletter editor who provided the loving harassment. THANK YOU ALL !!!
So the work is not done just yet. The results have been forwarded to our slide production team, thank you Laura Leuer and Andrew Tuckman, for creating the awards presentation. The banquet room and sea shore will be ready in all its glory to welcome our chapter members and their guests to celebrate and enjoy the evening. The only thing missing to complete this picture is for YOU to sign up. Please bring your spouse, parents, crew members, and friends to join in the festivities of the night. We promise an amazing show for you this year. Join us for “A Night on the Beach!”
Our association is unique in how we support each other in our common love of landscape contracting. It’s always a joy for those of us who work for you in the Central Coast Chapter when we are able to create an opportunity for us to gather together and celebrate what we value.
Thank you CLCA members and the body of work our association provides for us.

Spring Mixer and Beautification Awards Entry drop off, Bruno’s in Scott’s Valley.
This year’s Spring Mixer took place at Bruno’s Bar and Grill in Scotts Valley. It was our first time there, and we’re glad that we tried it out. Treetop views from the upper deck and a nice mix of familiar faces and some new friends joining our group helped make it a really special evening. It was the last day to turn in 2024 Beautification Awards entries as well, so there was an added incentive for some. We ended up with a hefty supply entries at the end of the night, so we’re headed into our next event with a lot of momentum.
Hope to see you all at the Awards Banquet at the beautiful Dream Inn!
Some of our winners from 2023 are shown in this ad.
Dear Landscape Contractors and Members,
You’re invited join us for the Central Coast Chapter’s 2024 Beautification Awards. This will be our chapter’s 38th annual awards ceremony. The awards banquet will return to The Dream Inn, Santa Cruz. Imagine with us an evening in the tropics. Down by the Santa Cruz Boardwalk at the historic Dream Inn. Ocean views, tiki drinks, sea breezes, and fragrant flowers, Hawaiian shirts and grilled fare. We’re imagining "a night at the beach” as our inspiration. Mark your calendar for that event on June 20th.
The Beautification Awards event is an excellent way to place to see local landscape talent recognized and appreciated. At the same time connect with your friends, share a beverage and a meal, enjoy the rockin’ reggae beach vibes of the Santa Cruda duo. Find your Hawaiian shirt and aloha spirit and join us.
