Central Coast Chapter October Report 2024,
Dear Central Coast Members,
I hope that this report finds you all in good spirits and good health. As fall descends upon us we now turn our attention to finishing this year strong after another successful Liars Cup Golf Tournament held at DeLaveaga golf course. Thank you Scott Long and Jamie Clark for all of your coordination and help on golf day. Read further on in this newsletter to see who was there, who won, and who is looking great on the green.
With our chapter’s planning meeting set for October 3rd and our holiday party scheduled for early December there’s plenty on our plates to keep us busy and the chapter engaged. The annual planning meeting for the Central Coast will be held at Granite Rocks headquarters in Watsonville. Invites to interested parties joining the leadership team will be coming soon.
Fall also brings with it our annual outreach to our associate members and our request to renew their commitment. We look to them for support, to financially invest in our chapters “Partners for Success” program for 2025. Without our Partners’ help it’s difficult to imagine bringing the many programs that our chapter offers to the membership such as: our Annual Trade Show in March, the Beautification Awards Event in June, Educational Events throughout the year, Golf, and our Holiday Party. These events allow our chapter to promote togetherness among the landscape community along with the continued education that we all need. We know the value that our Partners bring to the chapter and we trust that our Partners see the benefit in aligning with us. How is that for a pitch?
That’s all for now folks. Keep a lookout for our invitations.

Friday September 20, we held our CLCA Liars Cup Golf Tournament. What a great day for golf. Registration was set up by the 18th practice green. Players were busy hitting balls at the driving range or chipping in putting. Some enjoyed brunch or lunch upstairs. Most were enjoying some aiming fluids as well. Mimosa anyone? We had a 12:00 shotgun start with all the teams starting on the front 9. The course played tuff but fair. The “cart girl,” Macy, was kept extremely busy. Seems like everyone was having a blast.
And the winners are…everyone. However, the actual winning team, for the Team Scramble was Scott Long’s Team, consisting of Scott, Bill Thompson, Rick Rinaldi, Ryker Barnes. They won with a commanding low score of 53. Congratulations!
Second Place: Connie Dunn’s Team with Steve McElyea, Dave Beasley…with a score of 62.
Third Place: Mike Crum’s Team with Adam Crum, Phil Chadd, Francis Farley, with a score of 63.
Fourth Place: with a score of 67: Joe Baker’s Team with Jason Baker, Marty Baker, and Terry Baker.
Two Fifth Place winners: Each with a score of 68: Mike Stiger’s Team with Jon Kennedy, Rafael Solane, and Emma Magelssen & Jeff Calhoun’s Team with Steve Veltri, K Hunter, and M Hunter.
Thank you to our 9th long drive sponsor K&D Landscaping. The long drive was won by Ryker Barns and he damn near drove the green!! Our closest to the pin was sponsored by Granite Rock and Hunter on the difficult par 3 15th. Closest to the pin was won by Rob Pederson. Good job guys !!!
Look at all these playful Central Coasters. Win or lose, lots of fun. Hey, where’s the trophy! We usually have a photo of someone happily kissing the trophy.
All in all it was an awesome event with a great taco bar and awards up at the Grill/Bar. We would love to thank all our partners for their help and all the players for joining in the fun!
Special thanks to Terry Baker, Rafael Solano, and Regan Barry for the photography! Thanks Scott Long for providing a write up of the event.—Elise the Editor
