Hello Landscape Community,
Summer ran off like it stole something and fall is finally here.  I hope everyone is beginning to turn inward. This means slowing down, being more with our inner self, having more time to contemplate, and storing energy in preparation of rebirth in the spring! Chill.

Please check in with Bill Bruce at B&B Small Engine Repair to learn more about participating in the CORE Rebate Program for battery power landscape equipment.  This is an awesome opportunity and should not be missed.

We also would love to see you at our Annual End of the Year/Holiday/Member Appreciation Party, Thursday, December 8th, 6-9 p.m. Follow this link to register for the event. This is a great chance to mingle with your fellow earth minders and celebrate the holiday spirit. Our end-of-the-year party will be held at the Seacliff Golf Club Restaurant and Grill in Aptos. Come and celebrate a great year and make a toast to another one! The 2023 Board of Directors will be sworn in, there’ll be wine, food, and a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Fun for all, please invite friends and family.

Please bring one gift for the White Elephant Exchange ($10 or under). Dinner is at 7:00. Note that there are two comps for Oak and Redwood levels, one comp for Maple Partners. Hope to see you there.

Water Conservation Coalition Seeking Applicants

Water Conservation Coalition is seeking applicants for the Monterey Bay Friendly Landscaping - Climate Victory Garden Grant program.

This was the same source of funding that made Vai Campbell's Memorial Garden possible. If CLCA has an idea for a community service project in 2022, this could be a good way to get some extra funding and community involvement. See flyer below:

Board Meeting Minutes

Central Coast Chapter CLCA Board Meeting on October 5, 2022

Present: Phil Dundas, Regan Barry, Scott Long, Bill Bruce, Chris Wilson, Elise Huffman, Justin White, Ki Bowman

Call to Order
• Phil called the meeting to order at 12:05 PM. Meeting was at Seascape Golf Course
• No minutes were available from the September meeting but members will check with Terri to see if she has them.

Board Updates
Beautification Award Banquet: Regan motioned and the board voted to approve purchasing a $200 gift certificate for Andrew Tuckman for his work on the Awards program.

Battery Expo: Bill discussed his research into the zero-emission landscaping equipment incentive program (SORE) being offered by the Monterey Bay Air Resources District. This information will be made available to our member- ship at the educational program taking place at B & B Small Engine Repair on October 19. Bill asked for a donation to help cover the cost of the raffle prize that night and the board approved a $200 contribution.

Bylaws: The current chapter bylaws were passed around for approval. They will be accepted and returned to State.

Annual Planning Meeting: The date/time of Tues., Nov. 8 from 12-3 pm was chosen. Chris volunteered Graniterock headquarters: 350 Technology Dr., Watsonville as our meeting spot.

Annual Election of Board Directors: A call for volunteers will be put in the newsletter, as well as an invitation to all members to attend board meetings. The contact person will be Phil. A vote for open positions will be held at the Christmas party on Dec. 8th. Probable site will be the Sheriff ’s Posse building on Ocean St. Extension, Santa Cruz.

Board of Directors Changes: Scott Long was approved by unanimous written consent by State and introduced to the board as our Special Events Director. Past President Justin White announced that he will soon be stepping away and will be replaced by a K&D Landscaping team member, who will likely fill the Education Director position.

Chapter Outreach Pilot Program: There was discussion of how to use State reimbursement funds to promote the Central Coast Chapter to both contractors and customers.

More outreach in the South County was a topic. Regan suggested an ad in the Monterey Herald, which Ki will look into.

Our chapter’s social media presence was also discussed. Chris asked for a content backlog and Regan suggested contacting Tom Sweeney and John Sassaman at State for some resources. Chris will also arrange a zoom meeting with Lelah White and Jackie Serrano to work on strategies to grow the chapter audience. Ki asked board members to follow the chapter on Instagram if they aren’t alrready.

The board agreed to underwrite the cost of a dedicated chapter email address, info@clca-cc.org, so members don’t have to use their personal accounts for maketing purposes.

A printed flyer for landscaping clients explaining what the CLCA does was also put out for further development. It was asked that the digital file of the existing flyer that is directed at C27s be sent to the board members, which Elise will do.

BOD Insurance: Phil re-introduced the idea of purchasing liability insurance for the board of directors. After a short discussion, it was voted on and approved.

Other Business
• We need a community event for 2022. Let’s get this done.

Meeting adjourned at 1:47 pm.
