The Partner’s Corner! What a great benefit. Here’s an easy way to let people in your industry know what you’re up to, what’s new, and why you’re the success that you are. We want to see pictures of you, your family, your company’s staff, we want to know what you do in your spare time and what makes you unique. We’re interested. Please contact Elise Huffman, the Central Coast editor, if you are interested in being featured on our website in a future “Partner’s Corner.” Partner’s don’t miss this chance for some FREE advertising.
The Tournament was a big success in large part due to the tenacious work of our events director Scott Long. He was our Swiss army knife connecting all of us with critical tasks for the golf event. Great work Scott. Of course there is an equal amount of gratitude and thanks we want to everyone that signed up and played on what turned out to be a beautiful day for golf at Delaveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz. We had 45 golfers, not gophers, playing in the tournament.... although I do believe that a few sacrificed their lives for sure on some of my shots, not the golfers thank goodness. I love golf but I suck at it.
As long as I have been a member of the CLCA and Central Coast Chapter the Liars Cup has always been a great way to gather our landscape community together. I thank Chris Elliott, almost retired, for getting me involved. It is not often enough that we get the opportunity to hang out for the day with other landscape contractors/friends and suppliers/friends to have a fun day off. This along with an opportunity to network in a casual setting and of course share those crazy stories of our favorite customers. Keep reading to see who the winners were.....hint: Matt Gomez.
Many thanks to our Partners for Success who without their yearly support we would be in deep fescue...THANK YOU !!!! Also a BIG thank you to Steve Veltri from Hunter Industries who gave two $100 gift certificates towards the winners. THANK YOU HUNTER INDUSTRIES !!!!...and again Steve, who it must be said, was on Matt Gomez’s winning team, in case anyone missed it. The trophy is sitting on the counter of Ewing Irrigation in Santa Cruz. Next year I am going to choose Matt’s four.some.
You can always count on our chapter to deliver quality event throughout the year that offers our members a variety of opportunities to enroll in educational programs relevant to our industry, participate in our Beautification Awards program mid-summer, our Holiday celebration in December that will introduce our new board members, and of course we have a couple of golf tournaments sprinkled in.
See if you can find yourself among these happy folks on the green! (If not, well attend next year.)
And the winners are…
Left to right: Some, but not all, of the many human beings who are gems in the Central Coast CLCA.
Landscape contractors and members of the green industry should have a special connection to water quality. Contractors particularly should be aware of the law, understand the best management practices and how to apply them, know how their operations can contribute pollutants, and be able to manage their activities and employees. Landscape contractors should be proactive, not reactive. Staying in compliance and making a difference doesn’t always mean spending dollars. Sometimes it’s just a matter of having pride in what we do.
These guidelines are intended to provide a range of general information about stormwater quality best management practices and related issues faced by landscape contractors on job sites in California. These guidelines do not address site-specific applications or the entire scope of federal, state and local regulations. Landscape contractors must consult with a stormwater professional to determine the applicability of the information provided for any general use or site-specific purposes.
Back Article Oct 14, 2022 By Jennifer Fergesen
Over 100 years ago, Chicago native Roscoe Zuckerman first saw the labyrinthine waterways and windswept fields of the California Delta. He was there on a sourcing assignment for his cousin Edward Weyl, who ran a produce company in Los Angeles. But as he got to know the still-wild place and the people cultivating it, he realized he didn’t want to be a middleman tethered to the city. He wanted to be a farmer…
CLCA Central Coast Board Meeting September 6, 2023
In Attendance: Phil Dundas, Scott Long, Elise Huffman, Cathy Quinn, Regan Barry, Ki Bowman
Call to Order: 12:04 pm
Notes, Old Business:
Treasurer: Discussion about changing signers on SCCB checking account. Agreement reached that, since we’re close to the end of the year, that we should wait until the new board is seated.
Upcoming Events
Liars’ Cup - forty entries so far. We’re hoping to get 60 by game day. Event prizes were decided to be $100 for Closest to the Pin, $100 for Longest Drive and $400 for the winning team. Mulligans will be sold for $20 per team for four. Elise will send a reminder e-blast on Monday.
We need to order a new banner. Someone will contact Andrew Tuckman about artwork from the last order.
Ki asked recently to be relieved of social media duties. She passed around a sheet with the details of the three accounts (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) and will send Elise an ad to post in the newsletter for a replacement. It will be a paid position..
New Business
Board nominations: Elise will announce the opening of nominations for the 2024 BOD to the membership in the next newsletter. A vote will be made at the November board meeting.
October board meeting: Phil will be gone. Regan will chair in his place.
Annual Planning Meeting: The date of November 1st was selected and the board will ask Graniterock if we can use their conference room again.
Cathy provided a detailed budget report to show the board where finances stand. We are currently under budget but she pointed out that, with upcoming expenses, we will probably break even at the end of the year, depending on whether the Liars’ Cup brings in revenue.
New venues were discussed for Suppliers Night and the Beautification Banquet. Although everyone likes the Seascape Golf Club, it was determined to be too difficult to get to during commute traffic. We will continue the conversation at the Planning Meeting in November
Meeting adjourned at 1:30
