Netafim Offers Innovative Water Conserving Solutions

Meet CLCA Central Coast’s event director Katia Velasquez. Katia has been married to high school sweetheart, Alex Soto, for 27 years. Katia says “Ufft, it feels like five minutes.” They live in Felton, California with their “fur kids:” Echo and the Bunny Men (five) and Iggy Pop (five), their “feather kids” the Shakas. They’re a family of Stellar Blue Jays and Woodpeckers, there are eight of those little suckers. We also have Koi fishes named “Santo, Blue Demon, Corn Finger, Barracuda, Botete, Black Samson and The Tweaker” our Mexican wrestlers.

Katia loves sports, arts, and high design furniture. She plays basketball, participates in triathlons, surfs, rides mountain bikes and restores furniture. She is now doing clay sculpture and yoga! Om! She’s a Renaissance woman!

Katia came to the United States in June 2000, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and an MBA in International Business and Sales. She started a design, construction, and maintenance landscape company, Nature Elements Inc. where she worked for ten years. Katia and Alex created the local radio show “Viva Gardens,” a gardening and outdoor lifestyle show was broadcast on KSCO radio for four years. They grew and sold their companies. After that, Katia consulted as an architect for Pasatiempo Golf Course for their rehabilitation, then became the interim superintendent of Pasatiempo’s prestigious “top 100” golf course (in 2013) and then worked for another company in the industry and now Katia is working at Netafim USA.

Netafim and Katia are proud of being part of CLCA and for having the opportunity to help and support their members with service and innovative water conserving solutions. We thank our Central Coast Chapter for their support and for allowing us to participate in their programs and events. They are a great bunch!!!

Netafim’s Vision: As the world’s leading irrigation company we will drive mass adoption of smart irrigation solutions to fight scarcity of food, water and land.
Netafim’s Mission: Together with our partners we will revolutionize irrigation globally for a sustainable future. We will drive mass adoption of innovative, simple and reliable drip irrigation solutions. Our teams around the world provide customers with the best agronomic and technical support to ensure outstanding results and peace of mind.

In 2013 Netafim received the Stockholm Industry Water Award. SIWA recognized the business sector’s contribution to sustainable water management. One of the world’s most important water industry awards, SIWA annually honors one company that has demonstrated devoted water stewardship through impressive achievements in its water usage. “Globally, 70 percent of our finite freshwater is used for irrigation and with rapidly expanding demand for agricultural products, there is a dire need to improve water productivity,” said SIWA Committee in its citation. “Netafim’s remarkable achievements, helping farmers across the world to ‘grow more with less,’ are directly contributing to a more water-and-food-secure world.” (Excerpt from Business Wire Magazine website: read more...)
